“Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet nor dark of night can stop the U.S. Mail,” says the U.S. Postal creed, but nothing about mud.
Montecito residents and business will have to pick up mail and packages at Milpitas Post Office, 107 Nopalitos Way, Santa Barbara, but those in Summerland are going to have to wait.
The recent mudslides closed the Montecito Post Office, 1470 E. Valley Road.
“The Summerland Post Office cannot be accessed at this time due to the closure of Highway 101,” postal officials said. “We will update you when a suitable place is found for customer mail pick up.”
Since the highway may not be open until after Monday, Summerland residents and businesses may see a pile of mail waiting for them when they are able to pick it up.
Montecito postal customers can retrieve their post office box mail and obtain services at the Milpitas Post Office near East Beach from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
