Katreece Montgomery has been selected as the winner of the 2020 Santa Barbara Summer Solstice T-shirt and poster contest.
However, the announcement comes in the wake of the state’s shutdown of public gatherings.
“Currently, our community workshop is on schedule to open in May and the Santa Barbara Solstice Festival is planned for June 19 to 21,” said Executive Director Robin Elander in an email. “Although, at the current time, this is outside of the public health advisory, we, as one of the largest arts festivals in Santa Barbara County, are taking this very seriously. We are closely monitoring the situation and due to the uncertainty of this rapidly evolving public health issue, putting plans in place should a postponement or modification to the scope of our event be necessary.”
She said, “The health and safety of our community is our No. 1 priority. We will continue to provide updates.”
Cafe Ana, at the corner of Anacapa and Anapamu streets, is still displaying the contest entries, which are available for sale until March 31. Proceeds benefit the artists and the Summer Solstice Celebration.
“I have dabbled in various areas of art and design throughout my life, but my true passion has always been in illustration, I especially love drawing whimsical botanicals and food,” said Montgomery. “Beautiful Earth (this year’s Solstice theme) was inspired by my parent’s beautiful Santa Barbara garden. I am beyond thrilled and honored to be selected, thank you.”
