Workzones Santa Barbara is the site of this year’s version of Techstars Startup Weekend, a virtual beehive of entrepreneur activity where teams brainstorm to come with new enterprise ideas and pitch them to a panel of judges.
The 54-hour marathon weekend begins at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 8 and ends at 9 p.m. Nov. 10 in the newly expanded workzones space, which has grown to more than 14,000 square feet on the second floor of 351 Paseo Nuevo.
The event is designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs who will work on business plan development and basic prototype creation.
Top enterprises will be announced at a Sunday night of demonstrations and presentations.
Startup Weekend at workzones includes: seven catered meals, coffee and snacks; all-you-can-drink Red Bull and Yerba Mate; sponsor swag and goodies; networking with fellow participants, successful entrepreneurs, mentors and company sponsors; free website .co domain; and a potential job because a lot of mentors and companies are hiring at the event.
Startup Weekend first came to Santa Barbara about a decade ago at the Synergy Technology Center near East Beach. More than 100 entrepreneurs turned out for that weekend, which was the launching pad for several companies that are still around today.
Subsequent Startup Weekends have been held at Citrix, Impact Hub and the Sandbox on the South Coast.
Similar events have been held around the world and have incubated many technological start-up companies as well as other enterprises.
