Smoke Prompts Delay of Chamber Events

As the Thomas fire gets closer, many Santa Barbara events have been postponed or canceled.

The “Toast of the Season” mixer, planned for Dec. 7, was abruptly postponed because of the heavy smoke and ash the Thomas fire has produced since it flared up and roared up the Rincon toward Carpinteria this week.

Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce officials had planned to have the “Toast” at 5:30 p.m. at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum in the harbor.

The new date is Dec. 19, with the venue and start time remaining the same. However, that is subject to change.

The chamber also canceled a Dec. 12 new member orientation and a Dec. 14 Coffee & Connections Breakfast.

Proceeds from the Dec. 19 chamber mixer will aid the nonprofit CASA of Santa Barbara County.
