SB Startup History to be Explored Aug. 31

Rincon Ventures Partners Managing Partner John Greathouse will discuss “The History of Santa Barbara StartUps and Lessons Learned” and what the community can learn from its mistakes and lucky breaks, at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 31, Impact Hub Santa Barbara, 1117 State St. Happy our starts at 5:30 p.m.

This is not a lecture. Attendees should come ready to participate and share thoughts regarding Santa Barbara’s core competencies and the future of the region as a high-tech center of innovation.

John GGreathouse will discuss the South Coast’s core competencies are and how it ranks on Brad Feld’s startup community scorecard.

 Greathouse is a tenured member of the University of California at Santa Barbara’s Technology Management Faculty where he teaches New Venture Creation and Entrepreneurial Sales courses. In 2012, he was granted the UCSB’s  Venky award in recognition of his multi-decade impact on Santa Barbara’s entrepreneurial community.

He earned his MBA from Wharton School of Business and his undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland.

Greathouse was an active angel investor before joining Rincon, with investments including Eucalyptus (acquired by HP), Rightscale (backed by Benchmark, Index and others), and Appfolio (2015 IPO).  He serves on the boards of directors of ElephantDrive, Invoca, Jazz Recruiting, HG Data, Local Market Launch and SimpleLegal.

He also oversees Rincon’s investments in Earnest Research, Respondly, Sideqik and TaxJar.  John previously served on the Board of Connexity (acquired by Shopzilla, since renamed Connexity).  He is the author of the hands-on startup blog
