The Scheinfeld Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Santa Barbara City College will host its fall 2016 Enlightened Entrepreneurship Series with a getFUNDED panel discussion with entrepreneurs and funding experts, including FuelBox co-founder Robert Herr at the Fé Bland Forum on SBCC’s West Campus from 2:30 to 4:30 pm Sept. 9. The event is open to the public and free of charge.
Founded by SBCC students Herr and Dan Friedman several years ago, FuelBox is a unique, all-in-one, universal charging station with portable battery pack to keep mobile phones and tablets powered.
The getFUNDED panel discussion will enable Santa Barbara students, faculty, community members and aspiring entrepreneurs to learn the operations behind starting their own business. Experts will discuss stages involved in funding a startup and adopting an entrepreneurial mindset. The panel will address stages of investor funding, the process of finding and cultivating the appropriate investor relationship, the stages of financial planning, and the common mistakes and resolutions entrepreneurs may encounter.
Panelist Gary Kravetz will talk about venture capital investments. Another member of the panel, Mike Panesis, executive director of entrepreneurship for California Lutheran University and president of Tech Coast Angels, will discuss angel investments.
Panelist Susan Block is director of finance and Strategy for JMC Philanthropic Advisors, and a member of the Board of Directors for the MIT Enterprise Forum. She will share her expertise in investment banking. And, panelist Norah Eddy, founder of Salty Girl Seafood and a graduate of UCSB, will talk about her experience creative and cultivating the appropriate entrepreneurial funds needed to begin her business.
The event will be moderated by Scheinfeld Center Director Julie Samson, who said, “The Enlightened Entrepreneurship Series gives students and our local small business community unprecedented access to highly successful and unique entrepreneurs and innovators and kindles inspiration.”
Past speakers have included Yvon Chouinard, founder and CEO of Patagonia; Gene Montasano, founder of Lucky Brand Jeans; and Lynda Weinman, co-founder of Lynda.com.
