Robin Elander has accepted the permanent position as Downtown Santa Barbara executive director.
Downtown Santa Barbara has some 1,200 members and runs the city’s largest Business Improvement District. It is responsible for promoting downtown businesses, nonprofits and associate members.
Elander started as interim chief of the organization May 11. During that time, she organized the current State Street Promenade Market, which features local artisans and crafters on Thursdays from 3 to 7:30 p.m.
She has been executive director of Santa Barbara’s half-century-old Summer Solstice Celebration and founded Global Impact Good.
Elander has a master’s in public policy and administration and a bachelor’s degree in park, recreation and tourism management.
She also has organized Open Streets in Santa Barbara and Carpinteria and worked at Impact Hub as events coordinator.
She began her career working on large-scale projects in diverse neighborhoods in Raleigh, N.C. from 1999 to 2002, then for the city of Ventura from 2002 to 2011.
Elander succeeded Santa Barbara Downtown chief Carrie Kelly who left abruptly earlier this year to take a job in Arizona.
