Data-Driven Story-Telling Touted at SABER Breakfast

The head of one of the longest-lasting Santa Barbara-based digital marketing companies shared his ideas Feb. 13 on how to use social media and other techniques to boost clients’ images. 

Oniracom co-founder and CEO Jacob Tell spoke to about 50 men and women at a Santa Barbara Executive Roundtable breakfast at the University Club. 

Tell and his associates started the company almost two decades ago when social media and digital marketing were relatively new. 

Oniracom has had many big-name clients over the years starting with musician Jack Johnson, the Santa Barbara County Bowl and more recently the international wireless sound system maker Sonos, just to name a few. 

Tell referred to his company’s use of “data-driven story-telling.” Oniracom provides a host of client services, including website design, app development, brand building and event promotion. 

“We excite the senses with story-telling,” he said. 

Some of the tips on how to market a business with data-driven storytelling would involve searching for data in many online places, such Yelp, finding reviews, as well having focus groups and studying the competition, he said. 

“Share the right content,” Tell said. 

A self-described “live music phreak,” UCSB Gaucho and a “film nerd,” Tell said he is also “social justice focused.”  

Tell’s company also has been working with the Santa Barbara cannabis industry. 

He told the crowd “to always be of service” to the community.  He supports a number of local nonprofit groups.
