When the clouds cleared and the sun and blue skies returned to Santa Barbara after need rain on March 17, the area still was shrouded by the second shutdown in the past few years.
This week, Santa Barbara County officials asked bars, nightclubs, breweries, wineries and pubs to close to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Many of those businesses and retail shops already had shut or reduced their operating hours this week. Gyms have closed and some restaurants and coffee shops will only serve “grab and go” orders.
Some establishments had offered service with patrons keeping a “social distance.” However, to date most seem to be shutting their doors, even Dargan’s Irish pub on St. Patrick’s Day.
The Community Environmental Council has postponed the 50th annual Earth Day celebration, set for next month, until July. Summer Solstice officials are considering what to do next.
It’s difficult to determine how long this situation will last.
