The Santa Barbara Blockchain Summit is set for Nov. 23 in Corwin Pavilion at UCSB.
The event is an all-day educational conference to learn how the blockchain bitcoin emerging technology “promises to restore your digital sovereignty while disrupting legacy industries like banking, real estate, healthcare, supply chain management, advertising, and media,” organizers said.
The summit is designed for anyone interested in learning about the role of technology in democracy, digital currencies, ethical data management, the Internet of Things, smart cities, privacy, decentralization, digital assets and other issues.
Speakers include: Julian Wheatland, former chief operating officer at Cambridge Analytic; Brian Fox, author of the GNU Bash Shell and open source advocate; Jay Freeman, creator of Cydia and co-founder of Orchid Labs; Siva Kannan, engineering director at Boston Consulting Group DV; Baskar Krishnamachari, director of the USC Viterbi Center for Cyber-Physical Systems and the Internet of Things; and John Linden, previous studio head at Activision Blizzard on the “Call of Duty” and “Skylanders” franchises.
Along with a series of talks and panels, the event includes five hours of hands-on technical workshops on Ethereum or Hyperledger Fabric development in collaboration with the College of Engineering and Technology Management Program.
Event organizers sad demand for blockchain engineers has increased more than 515 percent in the last year.
The first 200 participants to sign up for the event will receive a $50 hardware wallet from ShapeShift. Tickets are $15, which includes breakfast, lunch and an after-party.
