The fifth stage of the 2019 Amgen Tour of California Bicycle Race will move through Santa Barbara County next week using portions of the state highway system during the daytime hours, Caltrans officials said.
Amgen is a large pharmaceutical company in based Thousand Oaks.
On May 16, the cyclists leave Pismo Beach at 10 a.m. using Highway 1 before riding on portions of State Routes 154 and 192 in Santa Barbara County. The cyclists will end their day at 3:45 p.m. in Ventura County.
On the previous day, the cyclists will leave Laguna Seca in Monterey County at 10 a.m. and will ride on portions of State Routes 68 and 218 before traveling south on Highway 1 and reaching Morro Bay in San Luis Obispo County at 3:45 pm.
The California Highway Patrol will oversee traffic control during these moving highway closures. Electronic message signs will be activated to inform the public about the cyclists and support vehicles. The public may learn more about the event at: http://www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/
