Santa Barbara Getting More Flight Service

Contour Airlines uses this type of aircraft from Santa Barbara Airport.

For the fourth time since May, more airlines have announced increased service from Santa Barbara Airport

On Aug. 27, Santa Barbara Airport officials said the facility will have direct flights to Oakland and Las Vegas on Contour Airlines starting next month.

Officials also said those daily Contour flights between Santa Barbara and Oakland will begin Oct. 16, with five weekly flights between Santa Barbara and Las Vegas beginning Oct. 18.

Contour uses 30-seat Embraer ERJ-135 jet planes. Airline officials said tickets purchased before Sept. 7 will cost $59 each way to Las Vegas and $79 each way to Oakland.

In what appears to be a trend of increasing flight service this year, airport officials also announced Aug. 13 that Sun Country Airlines will add Minnesota routes later this month.

Sun Country’s direct service to Minneapolis/St. Paul started Aug. 16, when the carrier launched a schedule of Thursday and Sunday flights with $196 roundtrip fares.

And in May, Frontier Airlines announced it was resuming flights from Santa Barbara to Denver, which began Aug. 21. The nonstop service from Santa Barbara to Denver is on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
