It may be just a few weeks before the start of winter, but the 46th annual Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Celebration has already chosen a theme for the 2020 festival and parade: “Beautiful Earth.”
The celebration starts June 19 with the parade commencing at noon June 20 at State and Cota streets. The three-day event at Alameda Park concludes June 21.
More than 75 ideas were suggested for the 2020 Summer Solstice theme.
Since today is “Giving Tuesday,” Solstice organizers are asking supporters to make donations to the nonprofit organization to help fund the many colorful floats, puppets, inflatables, masks and costumes that make the Solstice parade come alive.
Those Solstice supporters who contribute now at https://solsticeparade.com/support/donate, can receive a 2019 tax deduction.
Also, the 2020 Poster and T-shirt Design Contest is under way.
Artists are invited to interpret the 2020 “Beautiful Earth” theme in a visual medium of their own choosing. Submissions must be complete and ready to hang by Jan. 20. Entries will be displayed at a downtown venue during the 1st Thursday Artwalk where the public can vote for their favorite design.
Prizes, submission details and a venue will be announced soon. Contact the Summer Solstice office at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Summer Solstice sponsorship opportunities are also available and start at $250 to give exposure for organizations. For more information, see Sponsorship Deck
The Summer Solstice Celebation draws tens of thousands of people to mark the first day of summer with music, art, food, drink and fun.
