Nominations for the ninth annual Spirit of Entrepreneurship Awards are officially open from now until Feb. 20, said Marsha Bailey, founder and CEO of Women’s Economic Ventures, which now runs the nonprofit program.
“It’s quick and easy (one to two minutes), so please take the time to nominate any outstanding women entrepreneurs you consider worthy of this prestigious award,” Bailey said in a press release. “Simply fill out our online form on the Spirit of Entrepreneurship website. We need her name, business name and website, and ideally her email.” Self-nominations are welcome, Bailey said.
Winners will be announced at a May 3 awards dinner.
The mission of the Spirit of Entrepreneurship program is to support entrepreneurship at all levels by recognizing contributions of outstanding women entrepreneurs in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. The program also supports future economic growth through the recognition, financial support, and education of high school and college student entrepreneurs.
The student entrepreneurs, who have won the New Venture Challenge, a one-day business pitch competition put on by the Scheinfeld Center of Entrepreneurship at Santa Barbara City College, are awarded financial support (in the form of seed capital) and scholarships at our Spirit of Entrepreneurship Awards.
The program provides the six winners with prizes to support their successful business plan with the proceeds from the SOE Awards. In addition, scholarships to any four-year college or university are available to all the winning students.
Since 2011, the SOE program has raised more than $77,000 for the New Venture Challenge collegiate and the high school winners.
